Nyong’o tweeted “@Lupita_Nyongo Me + LANCÔME. #TGIF The secret’s out. And it feels GREAT.”
Fans of the actress were pushing for a cosmetics campaign after the Yale graduate wowed us with her beauty on red carpets and fashion editorials after her incredible performance as Patsey in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave. To our delight, Nyong’o went on to win an Academy Award last month.
Nyong’o is the first black ambassador for Lancome which features Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz and Lily Collins as spokeswomen. In a statement Friday, Nyong’o said she was proud to represent Lancome, adding “beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman’s freedom to be herself.”
Lancome ads featuring Nyong’o will start appearing this summer
#BOLDBRAIDS IS TRENDING ON TWITTER (DETAILS)In Lifestyle on April 2, 2014 at 4:22 pm
White folks in the shape of corporations and powerful individuals are known for copying and discrediting black culture, twisting it so it’s unrecognizable so it becomes white regardless of its history. Last year’s Harlem shake, twerking and early rock and roll are just a few examples of whites taking from blacks things we’ve made. Hairstyles should be added to that list along with language.
Enter Marie Claire who praised Kendall Jenner for sporting “epic and bold” partial cornrows in her hair. See photo above.
Twat Marie Claire:
“@marieclaire Kendall Jenner takes bold braids to a new epic level: http://marie.cl/60199BHv http://twitter.com/marieclaire/status/451403750960562176/photo/1”
Twitter wasn’t gonna let that slide; birthing #BOLDBRAIDS in response to the slight.
“@Tidijii Welp RT @divinitymatovu: @marieclaire what’re your thoughts on fact that black women are reprimanded at work for wearing same #boldbraids”
“@MelechT Top 5 Tweet RT @desusnice The only #boldbraids we acknowledge http://twitter.com/desusnice/status/451446364904632320/photo/1”
“@CGWacko I was gonna get a haircut tomorrow, but now I gotta go out and get #boldbraids outta spite. Thanks, @marieclaire! >.
“@zellieimani US military doesn't like #BoldBraids even if @marieclaire does.”
“@madphury "@German_Chocl8: *spits out water* OMG 😫 RT @DarthShada: Star Jones gave you #BoldBraids @marieclaire http://twitter.com/DarthShada/status/451445403951841280/photo/1"”
And so on, forcing the magazine to apologize for the slight.
“@marieclaire We didn’t mean to offend or imply that cornrows were new. Our tweet was poorly worded.”
“@marieclaire We thought her hair looked great and recognize women have been styling their hair like this for ages.”

Pantone, the world authority on color, sets what colors most of the fashion and design world will rock during the year. This year its Radiant Orchid so expect to see tons of purples.
Curious about how Pantone’s swatches compare to human skin, Spanish photographer Angelica Dass began Humanae, an ongoing project where volunteers, found via Tumblr and Facebook, are paired and photographed with Pantone color backgrounds. For example, Dass takes an 11×11 pixels sample of the subject’s face skin tone to determine the background color then makes a portrait.
Dass’s work is represented by Max Estrella Gallery.

JOURDAN DUNN IS NOT HERE FOR RACISM IN FASHION (PHOTOS)In Lifestyle on March 10, 2014 at 9:17 am
23 year old English supermodel Jourdan Dunn isn’t one for mincing words when talking about the racism she encounters in the fashion industry. The mother of one, who covers the April issue of Miss Vogue, cut to the chase in an interview where she describes the rampant ignorance in the industry.
“I don’t know why people applaud designers for having just one ethnic model. It’s not like only one type of woman loves fashion,” she tells the latest issue of Miss Vogue.
“I find it weird when [model] agents say, ‘You’re the only black girl booked for the show. Isn’t it great?’ Why is it great?” she adds.
Dunn backed Iman and Naomi Campbell last fall when the two giants came out swinging against the fashion industry’s lack of diversity.
