Fire Island Pines is lawyer turned artist Tom Bianchi’s gorgeous homage to NYC’S gay mecca, Fire Island. Over 40 years in the making, Bianchi shopped this amazing book to several publishers, including Andy Warhol, who saw potential in the subject matter but backed off from publishing the then scandalous document because it was taboo; and had the potential to destroy lives.

Gay Rights is Civil Rights, get over it! That’s what I want to scream at people who say that the two thoughts are mutually exclusive. When a person is killed or marginalized for being who they are, gay, lesbian, transgender, poor, a woman; their civil rights are violated. This is occurs all over the world, not just in the USA. In New York, in 2013, the right to be oneself is under attack by homophobes. Again.

Nigel Sylvester didn’t look like his usual self last night as he launched his Black Out, his second watch collaboration with G-Shock in two years, in NYC’s Meatpacking District. Sylvester, it occurred to me, is usually dressed casually in jeans and kicks, as if ready to ride. Last night the pro BMX champ, beloved on social media and on the streets, took it up a notch: he wore black velvet shoes, a leather jacket, a velvet bow tie and black drop-crotch trousers, a look he says has to do with his maturity as well as the color palette of his new watch.

Ed Koch, former three term NYC mayor is dead. Koch was admitted to hospital several times in the last few weeks for various health issues including respiratory illnesses. Koch died last night after being admitted to Presbyterian-Colombia Hospital.
