Laura Mvula hit our radar last week after Kola Boof posted the video below on Twitter. The video was posted a few days after Dark Girls, Bill Duke’s documentary about colorism in America, aired on Oprah’s Network, OWN. The discussion on the black internets was intense with criticism as well as praise. I however, did not see the film because I do not have cable.

Is this Bloomberg Businessweek magazine cover really racist? Lots and lots of people, mostly journalists, on the Internet seem to think so. I can understand why given the history of race and representation of African Americans and Latinos in media in the US. The illustrarion was made by a Latino man.

Rankins and Eric Glover, 22, above and friends for five years, now join the roster of that violence. The men were murdered by four white teenagers who used their corpses to fulfill necrophia fantasies in Illinois.
