EVERY RAPPER IN THE WORLD JUST GOT MURDERED BY THE GOLD MAN FROM PIMPRI (PHOTOS)

In Arts & Cutlure, Style on January 4, 2013 at 4:09 pm

Indian politicians and Western rappers are notorious for their extravagance but they have nothing on the Gold Man from Pimpri. Datta Phuge is a chit fund investor from the ironically named Indian town, Pimpri, and what he’s wearing is a 22 karat gold shirt weighing 3.5 kilograms. Phuge commissioned the shirt to complement his love and obsession with gold. He also sees it as an investment.

KIPPUR (ESSAY)

In Arts & Cutlure, Film on December 20, 2012 at 5:13 pm

We never see the other army, we only hear them. We never see civilians: we hear them. The soundtrack is a lone saxophone.
Kippur, released in 2000, is a film by Israeli director Amos Gitai.
Filmed at eye level, with long takes, Kippur feels very personal. Kippur is Amos Gitai’s story. It took him more than twenty years to write about it. He didn’t want to make a pro-militaristic film. And Kippur is not.

A few days ago Brooklyn and The Knicks most vocal cheerleader, via Twitter,  posted the above Polaroid of legendary baller and sneaker salesman Michael Jordan, Mars Blackmon, and Nola Darling on the set of an unreleased Jordan commercial made in the late 1980s. FOXES FROZEN IN NORWAY (PHOTOS)

In Arts & Cutlure on December 19, 2012 at 9:44 am

Its hard out there for a fox in Norway. These revered and terrified creatures look like they were flash frozen in the wintery wilds of Norway. Not sure who the photographer was but I found these images on Imgur.com. Foxes are known for their tolerance of cold and occupy the human unconscious as trickster symbols. Please pour one out for the little guys.

In Arts & Cutlure, News on December 17, 2012 at 4:57 pm

Queens, NY artist and educator Alice Mizrachi, like most Americans and world citizens, is still trying to fathom how a 20 year old man armed with machine guns snuffed 20 elementary school students in Newtown, Connecticut last Friday afternoon. As an educator, Mizrachi has worked with kids just like the ones Adam Lanza murdered when he walked into the Sandy Hook Elementary School.

In Arts & Cutlure, Style on December 12, 2012 at 1:25 pm

Reactions on Instagram are mixed after twin Brazilian graffiti artists Os Gemeos posted an image of their upcoming collaboration with Italian power label Louis Vuitton. Fruits of the partnership, which we assume will include scarves and tees, will be available for purchase in January. Not everyone is feeling the Twins, known for their activism as much as their art, decision collabo with LV before releasing a print.

BOOK WITH COLORS FOR TEXT LEAVES INTERNET SPEECHLESS (PHOTOS)

In Arts & Cutlure on December 12, 2012 at 9:50 am

I’d hazard that this massive and colorful book was a creation of British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor because of his penchant for pigments and scale. Its not a Kapoor, though. Its too rectangular,  there aren’t any curves; plus the scale is off. Found on imgur where the  comments run from awe to FAAAAAAAAABBBBBBBUUULLLOOOOOOUS.Some favorite reactions after the break

MAKE IT STRONG SO IT WILL LAST FOR YOU AND FOR ME (ESSAY)

In Arts & Cutlure, Film on December 7, 2012 at 9:20 pm

The camera circles the room slowly as Dorota speaks. They say there is only a handful of us. But we don’t care what those people say- who turned our country over into the hands of criminals. A close up on each face as a cigarette is passed from hand to hand. Everyone is listening. So are we. We are listening to Dorota but also to the faces in that room.
