SUPER NIGGER: WHY DJANGO UNCHAINED IS NOT A DOCUMENTARY (ESSAY)
In Film on December 28, 2012 at 10:37 am
[Some spoilers ahead.]
I saw Django Unchained Christmas night in Brooklyn and thought Quentin Tarantino’s new film, starring Jamie Fox, Kerry Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz, entertaining, funny, violent and sad. It’s worth seeing, however. Go see it.

LOVE TO SING? ILANA MARTIN’S VOCAL WORKOUT SINGING SCHOOL IS HIRING (DETAILS)
In Music on December 21, 2012 at 12:48 pm
We get lots of pitches from singers who are chasing dreams so its only right we publish a post about vocal training for singers and those who may be interested in being vocal teachers. Ilana Martin is the founder of Vocal Workout Singing School here in NYC. She’s also the lady who taught Diddy to sing so there’s hope for all of us, including me.

“JAMES FRANCO DIDN’T SUCK ANY DICKS LAST NIGHT” (DETAILS)
In Film, Humor on December 20, 2012 at 7:01 pm
This Is The End won’t be released until Summer 2013 but seeing how the world will end in a few hours, artist and actor James Franco, along with Seth Rogan, who also stars in the apocalyptic film, thought we should see the trailer now. The film is a comedy, FYI, with a bunch of comedic actors including the black guy from the office and Hot Tub Time Machine. Watch him drink pee inside.

KIPPUR (ESSAY)
In Arts & Cutlure, Film on December 20, 2012 at 5:13 pm
We never see the other army, we only hear them. We never see civilians: we hear them. The soundtrack is a lone saxophone.
Kippur, released in 2000, is a film by Israeli director Amos Gitai.
Filmed at eye level, with long takes, Kippur feels very personal. Kippur is Amos Gitai’s story. It took him more than twenty years to write about it. He didn’t want to make a pro-militaristic film. And Kippur is not.

Spike Lee is having a great week! The Knicks taped The Nets 100-86 last night at Barclays Center, and his newest feature Red Hook Summer will be released on DVD tomorrow. A few days ago Brooklyn and The Knicks most vocal cheerleader, via Twitter, posted the above Polaroid of legendary baller and sneaker salesman Michael Jordan, Mars Blackmon, and Nola Darling on the set of an unreleased Jordan commercial made in the late 1980s. We may never know what a She’s Gotta Have It themed Jordan commercial looks like but the Polaroid comes close.

WATCH: NIGEL SILVESTER X GATORADE ‘PERFECT MOMENT’ (VIDEO)
In Lifestyle, Sports on December 19, 2012 at 6:00 pm
There’s no doubt Queens native Nigel Sylvester is a bike riding supersta’ maniac. In fact he may well be the best Pro BMX athlete to go All City on two wheels, riding railings and burning rubber on concrete. His skill is evidenced by the people he inspires (they check for him on Twitter and Instagram), the stunts he executes, and the humble way he carries himself on and off the ashphalt. And the best part of his fame? His fearlessness, skill, and watching videos like his latest with Gatorade.

How epic is this? Wilt Chamberlain, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Andre The Giant on the set of Conan The Destroyer. How many women you think Wilt & Arnold bedded in the early 1980s given what we know about their sex lives? Wilt claimed 20,000 in his autobiography.

Its hard out there for a fox in Norway. These revered and terrified creatures look like they were flash frozen in the wintery wilds of Norway. Not sure who the photographer was but I found these images on Imgur.com. Foxes are known for their tolerance of cold and occupy the human unconscious as trickster symbols. Please pour one out for the little guys.

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA IS TIME MAGAZINE’S PERSON OF THE YEAR (PHOTO)
In News on December 19, 2012 at 9:12 am
TIME has named Barack Obama its Person of The Year. Not sure what this means but here’s their reasoning:
“Through crises and gridlock, President Barack Obama kept the trust of the American people – and won a chance to rekindle the hope that inspired a nation.”
