“Jean Michel Basquiat Reclining Nude” is the title of a solo show of black and white nude photographs of the iconic and legendary Haitian-Puerto Rican artist taken in 1980 by the superstar artist’s then girlfriend Page Powell. The images, 35mm, were made in the upper west side apartment of Powell who came to New York from Portland to work at Interview magazine and for Woody Allen. After landing both jobs Powell was introduced to Basquiat by Warhol a few years before both men died. Their relationship lasted two years. Below, see Basquiat in the buff, drawing nude while watching cartoons on a futon.

“The photographs provide an intimate look into our private lives while we were together in the early 1980s. They are at once vulnerable and trusting images of our love and the daily life of Jean-Michel Basquiat,” Powell told ArtDaily.

Powells show is on view at the Suzanne Geiss Company through February 22.
