The default setting for the gender of heroes in video games is male, so its really cool that The World’s Most Awesome Dad hacked Donkey Kong so his daughter could rescue Mario and play the game as Pauline, turning that character into a hero.

DITA VON TEESE DEBUTS WORLD’S FIRST 3D PRINTED DRESS (PHOTOS)

Style icon Dita von Teese is used to turning heads out of her clothes, but on Monday the burlesque performer inspired awe while keeping her clothes on. That’s because von Teese wore the world’s first articulated, 3D printed dress.

SONY ANNOUNCES THE PLAYSTATION 4 IN NYC (DETAILS)

Sony announced its latest hardware in the console wars, the Playstation 4, a new gaming device that is an upgrade to the Playstation 3 console released seven years ago. DRAKE PATROL: YOLO IS AN ANDROID SMARTPHONE IN AFRICA (DETAILS)

YOLO, the most overused and annoying phrase (after swag) ever, is now an Intel smartphone to be sold in Kenya. The Android powered phone sports a 3.5-inch touch display, runs on an Atom Z2420 processor and can hit speeds of up to 1.2GHz. YOLO can also encode and decode 1080p video, and also supports HSPA+ data speeds. The phone was announced by Intel and its Kenyan partner Safaricom at CES 2013.

SOUTH AFRICAN SLUMS GET BOOST FROM iSHACK, TECHNOLOGY (PHOTOS)

Shacks are the default iconography of poverty and slums around the world. Whether you’re looking at a favela in Brazil or a shanty town in South Africa, one thing is certain: you will see zinc sheltering the poor. iShack won’t change the landscape of poverty too much but it will offer some of the world’s poor access to electricity and better housing thanks to solar panels and a grant from Bill Gates.

Two Canadian companies, working wirh Queens University, have created a flexible tablet the size and density of a sheet of paper. Called Papertab, the flexible e-ink tablet was made by Plastic Logic and Intel Labs and will revolutionize the way people work with tablets and computers.

ANGRY BIRDS IS ON A BRANDING RAMPAGE IN FINLAND (DETAILS)

Angry Birds, the breakout mobile game from Finland’s Rovio, is on a branding rampage in Finland, virtually taking over the frosty Scandinavian nation. Since it colonized the world two years ago, the good folks at Rovio decided to slap the Angry Birds tag on everything they can think of. Need an Angry Birds bike, pencil, board game, coffee mug, notebook?

RUSSIAN SMARTPHONE WITH TWO SCREENS COMING TO AMERICA NEXT YEAR (PHOTOS)

The YotaPhone is Russia’s take on Android. Sporting two 4.3 inch screens, one on the front and one on the back,  the phone promises to save battery life while delivering a unique browsing experience. One screen functions like an e-reader with e-ink, think Kindle, while the other is more conventional.
